Police were summoned to the location at approximately 7:15 am today after receiving a report of a suspected burglary. This is a Breaking News story.
A man has been found dead following a suspected burglary at a property in Newcastle.
Police were called to the scene at around 7.15am today following a report of a suspected burglary in the Blanford Square area.
Emergency services attended, where sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.
The man’s death is not being treated as suspicious by officers and a report has been made for the coroner.
There was a huge presence of emergency services at the junction of Blandford Square today, with ambulances, a fire engine and police cars parked in the vicinity at Westmorland Street in Newcastle city centre.
The Discovery Museum said in a statement it remains closed today. Chronicle Live reports scaffolding is currently on the building as contractors have been working on roof restorations.
Firefighters were seen climbing the stairs on the scaffolding at the back of the museum. No details have been released on the nature of the incident.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At around 7:15am today (Sunday) we received a report of a suspected burglary in the Blanford Square area of Newcastle.
"Emergency services attended, where sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.
"The man’s death is not being treated as suspicious by officers and a report has been made for the coroner."
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson added: "We were called to an incident in Newcastle on Sunday 12 April shortly before 10am. We dispatched two ambulance crews, one clinical team leader, one specialist paramedic and two HART resources (Hazardous Area Response Team)."
