A restaurant in Birmingham has hit back at a 'drunk' diner who called them 'pretentious' in a seething review.

A disgruntled customer named Ryan gave The Bun & Barrel burger restaurant in Harborne a meagre one star as he complained that he'd been "kicked out" of the eatery after telling them he'd been drinking.

The restaurant, which serves burgers, beers and cocktails, only opened this month and has already received several good reviews praising its "great atmosphere" and "welcoming staff".

But co-founders Jamie Desogus and Rob Hennebry decided not to let Ryan's criticism slide, and quickly came back with their own sassy response, Birmingham Live reports.

Writing about his experience online, Ryan fumed: "Wouldn't bother, walked in, informed the server we had been drinking but would like a burger, kicked out straight away saying they don't allow people who have been drinking to enter."

He claimed that staff had been "aggressively rude" to him and added: "If you want a good burger use Burger Me Up or Herbert's Yard, Longbridge, not these pretentious people."

But The Bun & Barrel disputed Ryan's claims and shot back with a lengthy response.

"Oh Ryan, that's not quite what happened is it?" they wrote.

"You said you were 'p*****' not 'had been drinking'. So we said: 'Maybe another night then'. Doesn't sound aggressive? Does it?

"It's illegal for us to serve someone who is 'p*****' by the way. Maybe you were more drunk than you remember if your memory of the conversation is that bad."

They added: "Good thing is we have the footage including sounds if you'd like it?"

The restaurant then took to their Twitter to share the poor review and their response, captioning the picture: "Can confirm we don't serve "p***** people. A handy reminder for Ryan".

The post was met with an outpouring of support, with people commenting Gifs for dropping the mic and clapping in response the business' hilarious retort.

Tommy Dempsey, who used to be an assistant manager for a Birmingham city centre pub, said he could relate to the incident.

He commented: "I do not envy you. The amount of times I've told people it would be illegal to serve them because of how drunk they are and their pointed anger they say, 'But this is a pub'.

"It's like bashing your head against a brick wall."

Another commenter reminded the restaurant that they don't need the reviewer's permission to post the footage, to which they replied: "True, but we also have better things to do with our time."
