Black smoke was observed billowing over the Bristol skyline after St Michael’s Hospital, a maternity hospital in the city center, caught fire, leading to the evacuation of mothers and babies

Thick black smoke was spotted billowing from a major hospital this afternoon as fire crews rush to the scene.

Images shared across social media show massive plumes of smoke rising into the sky above Bristol, after St Michael’s Hospital - a maternity hospital in the city centre - burst into flames.

Firefighters from Avon Fire and Rescue Service tackled the blaze, while pregnant mothers and babies were evacuated onto the street.
