Conor McGregor was amused by a joke about slap-fighter Kortney Olson looking like retired footballer Robbie Keane after being hit in the debut episode of Power Slap.

The legendary Irish fighter appears to be a fan of UFC boss Dana White's controversial Power Slap league, which had its delayed television debut in America on Wednesday night. And he got in on the joke when a fan on Twitter claimed that a fighter had inadvertently copied Irish footballer Robbie Keane's famous somersault celebration after being viciously knocked out.

Olson was facing Sheena Bathory when she received a first round shot so powerful that she immediately slumped to the ground unconscious. As she attempted to get back up, she overbalanced and ended up rolling forward, in a way that was a little less graceful than Keane used to back when he was scoring Premier League goals.

McGregor responded by laughing and tagging a fan account for Keane on Twitter after seeing a fan tweet about the knockout, before offering his own take on the new sport. He wrote a series of tweets before declaring that he could be the "Joe Rogan of Power Slap", giving his extensive knowledge on how to put an opponent to sleep.

"If anything, power slap is showing the importance of turning back your shoulder and torquing your torso into the shot," McGregor wrote. "'Turning of the hip' potentially the wrong terminology being used. Hips less important? Possible also. Turn your shoulder back and torque fully into strike! Stabilize the hips. Turn the shoulder. Torque the torso. KO! Where’s my belts and my cash. Yup the Keano fella hahahaha! Classic."

When a fan asked what the best technique to take such a slap was; relaxed or tense, McGregor responded: "Interesting question. It would have to be better to take it relaxed. However, with eyes fully on the slap at all time. 100 per cent! Full awareness with a relaxed brace I would say is best. Then all you can do is pray the opponents sum of force x velocity is less than needed."

The new Power Slap league, which is currently being presented in the form of a reality show on TBS in America, has not been popular with fans on social media. And it reported a mere 295,000 viewers, placing it at No.45 in the top 150 shows airing at the time despite being on a major network.

McGregor is currently in training for his own return to the octagon, where he will fight at welterweight in pursuit of an unprecedented third world title. He has already held gold at lightweight and featherweight, but has won just once since 2016, holding a recent record of 1-3.
