A teenage boy has died after a car he was riding in crashed into the River Nene in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.
Joe Maddy, 15, died in hospital after Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue pulled him from the wreckage.
The 18-year-old driver of the car was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving but was later bailed.
Joe’s heartbroken family issued a statement reading: ‘We would like to say thank you to everyone for their kind words at this very sad time.’
Tributes have been paid to the ‘much-loved’ teenager, with one person writing: ‘Absolutely awful, Joe seemed such a genuine and lovely lad. Thoughts are with all his family and friends in this time. Rest in peace, Joe.’
Another added: ‘That cheeky smile will forever be remembered.’
