Police increase presence in Hull following violent stabbings

A man and a woman have been left fighting for their lives after being stabbed in the neck and stomach in a double attack in east Hull.

A 35-year-old man was found with a stab wound to his stomach and a head injury in the Buckingham Street area, off Holderness Road, at 2am today.

An hour later a 33-year-old woman was found in nearby Rosmead Street, with a stab wound to her neck.

Humberside Police said the incidents appear to be connected.

Police said: ‘Officers are in attendance and cordons are in place following reports of two stabbings in Hull during the early hours of this morning (Saturday 25 January).

‘Shortly after 2am, officers were called to attend the junction between Buckingham Street and Brecon Street after a man had been reportedly stabbed.

‘The man was taken to hospital for treatment to life threatening injuries having sustained a stab wound to his stomach and a serious injury to his head.

‘Shortly after 3am, officers received a further call to Rosmead Street to reports that a woman had also sustained stab wounds to her neck.

‘The woman was also taken to hospital for treatment to life threatening injuries.’

Detective Inspector Mark Skelton from our Major Crime Team said: ‘We believe these incidents to be connected and I would like to offer my reassurance that the individuals are believed to be known to each other. There is no wider risk to the public.

‘Enquiries remain ongoing, including house to house enquiries, and trawling CCTV to establish the full circumstances and identify those involved.

‘A 35-year-old man and 33-year-old woman remain in hospital for treatment to injuries which are thought to be life-threatening at this time.

‘Members of the public can expect to see an increase in police presence and there are multiple scene guards in place on Barnsley Street, Buckingham Street, and Rosmead Street as our investigation continues and Crime Scene Investigators carry out their enquiries.’
