Boy, 12, dies after Birmingham stabbing; teen arrested for murder

West Midlands Police say a 12-year-old boy was found with serious injuries after a stabbing near Scribers Lane in the Hall Green area of Birmingham on Tuesday.

A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of a 12-year-old boy.

Police continue to investigate the stabbing which left the youngster with serious injuries near Scribers Lane in the Hall Green area of Birmingham on Tuesday afternoon. He was taken to hospital, but died as a result of his injuries.

A 14-year-old boy has been detained on suspicion of murder, West Midlands Police say. The force had launched an appeal during which officers "urgently reviewed CCTV" and spoke to witnesses.

The attack on the residential road happened at around 3.15pm just after schools had finished for the day. Scribers Lane connects Hall Green in the east to Trittiford Mill Park in the west, which is a large open space and recreational area near the Yardley Wood area of the city.

Photographs taken at the scene last night show a large police cordon, thought to be near the Trittiford Mill Park area of Scribers Lane. At least three marked police cars are pictured at the scene, which it is thought remains cordoned off today as the investigation resumes.

Although the arrest has been made, police continue to probe the stabbing. A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "His (the victim’s) family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

"We are continuing to appeal for any information which could help in our investigation. We have set up our Major Incident Public Portal (MIPP) where members of the public can submit photos or video evidence." Visit WMP Intranet - Home (mipp.police.uk) to access the MIPP. Anyone with any other information can call 101 or use Live Chat quoting log 3324 of 21 January."
