The UK’s most prolific serial rapist was targeted in an attack by a group of prison vigilantes.

Reynhard Sinaga has been locked up in HMP Wakefield since he was convicted of 159 sexual offences in January 2020.

He was initially sentenced to at least 30 years – but this was increased to 40 years following an intervention by the Solicitor General that December.

The Sun reported that he narrowly escaped serious injury in the attack, which took place in July.

A source told the newspaper Sinaga, 41, is ‘arrogant and universally loathed’, adding: ‘He was seconds away from extremely serious harm. He is in danger.’

Prison guards are believed to have stepped in to end the alleged planned attack.

Prisoner Jack McRae, 32, has been charged with attempted GBH with intent of Sinaga.

He has since been moved to HMP Frankland in County Durham.

Sinaga filmed himself assaulting victims he had lured to his Manchester flat after finding them alone and drunk outside nearby nightclubs.

Because he drugged them with GHB, they had little or no memory of the hours after they arrived in his home, with many unaware they had even been attacked.

He was only caught when his final teenage victim woke up as Sinaga was trying to rape him.

Giving evidence in court, the victim said Sinaga used his ‘Good Samaritan’ act to persuade him to come back to his flat and ‘get out of the cold’.

A mugshot released in 2021 revealed how the victim left him battered and bruised after fighting back.

In 2021, it was announced GHB would be reclassified following its use in ‘truly sickening crimes’.

The drug, also known as liquid ecstasy, acts as a sedative but can make users feel sleepy and put them at risk of overdose and death.

Wakefield Prison is home to some of the UK’s most notorious and violent criminals, including Robert Maudsley – nicknamed Hannibal the Cannibal – and former Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins.
