EasyJet captain pleads with ‘drunk’ passengers during midair brawl

Shocking footage has emerged of two men attempting to brawl in the middle of a flight to Turkey.

Carl James, 38, from Dartford, UK, captured the footage on a flight which was scheduled to travel to Antalya, Turkey, from London Gatwick, but was forced to divert to Athens, Greece on October 1.

In the video, two men are seen shouting and swearing at each other whilst the captain was pleading with them to calm down over the PA system.

One of the men appeared to take off his gilet before trying to confront the second passenger.

The captain was heard saying: ‘This is the captain speaking. To the people who are fighting, the police are waiting for you at the gate. You’re only making things worse for yourself. Please sit down.’

Scattered applause was heard through the plane after the pilot attempted to intervene.

After contacting easyJet a spokesperson said: ‘easyJet can confirm that flight EZY8558 from Antalya to London Gatwick on 1 October diverted to Athens and was met by police after landing due to a passenger behaving disruptively onboard.

‘easyJet’s cabin crew are trained to assess and evaluate all situations and to act quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers is not compromised at any time.

‘Whilst such incidents are rare, we take them very seriously and do not tolerate disruptive behaviour onboard.

‘The safety and wellbeing of passengers and crew is always easyJet’s highest priority.’

In July, another flight was forced to turn around after passengers began brawling onboard.

One passenger aboard the flight from Agadir to London Stansted said the fight started between two families while they were boarding the aircraft, The Sun reported.

They were less than 40 minutes into the journey, and around 30,000 ft in the air, when the pilot was forced to change destinations, after cabin crew had been able to calm down the warring sides.

The fight itself is understood to have kicked off after a man, reportedly in his late 20s, asked a woman to move so that he could sit with his wife and kids.

The woman, reported to have been sitting beside her daughter, refused, after which the man is then thought to have started threatening her.

Once the seatbelt signs were turned off, the woman’s husband then confronted the man who’d asked her to move. i
