Adam Andrews is due to be released despite leaving a baby boy with injuries so severe that he now needs round-the-clock care and suffers from about 40 seizures a day

A machete-dealing thug and an abuser who left a baby 21-day-old paralysed are set to be freed under a controversial prison release scheme to free up spaces in the country’s packed prisons.

There was widespread outrage yesterday as more than 1,600 prisoners were released yesterday as the new Labour government tries to get a grip on the overcrowded jails crisis. But thousands more are due to be freed in the near future, including a machete thug and a child abuser.

Lawson Natty, 18, is among those who is due to walk free in the near future after he was jailed for manslaughter in March. He was handed a two year and eight month sentence in March after he supplied a machete that was used in the killing of 14-year-old Gordon Gault in 2022.

The victim’s mum Dionne Barrett said his proposed early released left her "sickened." Natty had served time on remand which ultimately counts against his sentence and is understood to be set to enter an immigration centre upon release from prison.

"I feel totally sick to my stomach that he’s allowed out now after only serving months," Dionne told Good Morning Britain. "It’s absolutely sickening.

"He’ll be getting out within the next couple of days. he’s going to be back out on the streets. Fair enough, let pretty criminals out.

"Not somebody who’s killed a 14-year-old child. Someone who purchases machetes. What if he does it again to somebody else?"

Adam Andrews, 37, is also due to be released following his sentencing to three years in March. The brute abused a baby boy in 2018 and left helpless child blind and paralysed.

The infant now needs constant care and suffers about 40 seizures a day, according to The Sun. His mum, who wished to remain anonymous, told the Telegraph: "Not only has this process taken almost six years to get a sentence.

"He was given such a lenient sentence in the first place - and now this is being used in his benefit. If he is not classed as a serious offender for almost taking my children away, then who is?"

Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood said she needed to release prisoners early "to avert a disaster" as there were only 1,000 places left in jails across the country. The Labour minister blamed the last Tory Government for allowing the crisis to spiral in England and Wales.

There was a release scheme under the Conservatives who allowed prisoners to be freed up to 70 days early and failed grapple the situation. But it faced criticism as it would give a day’s notice of an inmate being released early.

Numerous Conservatives have hit out at the new Labour Government, including Robert Jenrick who is running to lead the party. Following the release of prisoners, Mr Jenrick said in a post shared to X/Twitter: "Today is a day of shame for our criminal justice system. The solution is simple: build more prisons and lock up prolific offenders for longer."
