Far-right protesters have clashed with police in central London during a protest over the Southport stabbings.
Demonstrators threw beer cans and glass bottles at police in riot gear while chanting ‘England ’til I die’, ‘terrorists out of our country’, ‘save our kids’ and ‘Tommy Robinson’.
Others threw flares at a statue of Winston Churchill in Parliament Square.
Hundreds gathered opposite Downing Street around 7pm, where they were supposed to remain until a 8.30pm dispersal time, according to police restrictions.
But the protest – promoted by former EDL leader Tommy Robinson and disgraced broadcaster Laurence Fox – started marhcing towards Westminster.
Misinformation fuelled violence in Southport last night, where rioters targeted a mosque amid claims the suspected attacker was an asylum seeker who arrived by boat last year.
The suspect cannot be named as he is under 18, but police have said he is originally from Cardiff.
