Buckingham Palace issues rare update on whether Kate will attend major event

Kate Middleton will not be returning to her public duties anytime soon months after her cancer diagnosis.

Buckingham Palace said today that the Princess of Wales won’t appear at the Colonel’s Review.

The military ceremony takes place on June 8 in London, the weekend before the Trooping the Colour, which marks the monarch’s official birthday.

Bearing the honorary rank of Colonel in Chief of the Irish Guards, Kate would normally attend the Colonel’s Review.

However, Lieutenant General James Bucknall will be the inspecting officer on behalf of the Princess of Wales instead.

Since revealing she had cancer in a video earlier this year, the princess has kept a low profile.

She said she was undergoing a ‘course of preventative chemotherapy’.

King Charles was diagnosed as well with cancer in February and has been undergoing treatment.

Buckingham Palace confirmed he will participate in Trooping the Colour on June 15, having returned to his public duties last month.

It is unclear, however, if Kate will be attending Trooping the Colour.

The Ministry of Defence caused confusion in March when it appeared to confirm she would attend the Colonel’s Review.

A post on the British Army website had to be removed after royal sources said palace officials had not been consulted about the web page.

The Trooping the Colour ceremony is believed to be around 350 years old, beginning in the reign of Charles II.

This year more than 1,350 soldiers of the Household Division and King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery are set to take part.
