Edinburgh Airport was flooded with emergency services this morning after a Virgin Atlantic flight made an emergency landing.
The plane reportedly burst its front nose gear after departing from Orlando, Florida, and required assistance while landing.
The front landing tyre had a reported low pressure, sparking fears of a runway crash – more than 3,000 people watched the landing on FlightRadar24.
The plane has now safely landed, and emergency vehicles are attending to the flight.
A Virgin Atlantic spokesperson said: ‘As a precautionary measure we have requested engineers meet our flight the VS226 travelling from Orlando to Edinburgh upon landing due to low nose gear tyre pressure.
‘The safety of our customers and crew is always our top priority and the aircraft had landed as normal.’
The aircraft was an Airbus A350-1000, and a spokesperson said the passengers and crew have disembarked as normal.
Direct flights to and from Orlando only resumed last month, Edinburgh Airport said, with two services operating per week.
Other departures set to leave Edinburgh were delayed due to the plane’s landing, with other arriving flights forced into a holding pattern until the runway was cleared.
An Edinburgh Airport spokesman said: ‘Our teams were made aware of an issue with the inbound Virgin Atlantic flight and as a precaution stood up response procedures as is standard practice.
‘The flight has landed and was met by emergency response vehicles. It has since exited the runway and operations have resumed.’
