A British girl, 16, was taken to the police by her mother after being raped during a holiday on Greek island Crete after leaving her parents and going to the toilet in a bar
A British girl on holiday with her parents is said to have been raped in a bar after leaving to go to the toilet.
The unnamed victim, 16, was holidaying on Greek island Crete when the horror attack unfolded on Wednesday. Local reports suggested the family were in a bar Malia when the schoolgirl left her mum and dad to go to the loo, shortly before her ordeal began.
The girl and her mother later visited a local police station to report the vile crime. Police on the holiday island checked CCTV and believe they have identified her attacker as a 28-year-old man from Pakistan. A manhunt has been launched to bring him to justice.
A spokesman for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: "We are supporting a British person following an incident in Greece and are in contact with the local authorities."
Earlier this year a British woman described being gang-raped while on holiday in Cyprus by five men after being “forcibly dragged” into a hotel room in the party resort of Ayia Napa. The tourist, aged 20 at the time of the alleged attack, was escorted under police protection into Famagusta criminal court in February as she prepared to give testimony behind closed doors.
It was the first time since identifying the suspects in a police line up last September the Brit came face-to-face with the men. A police officer said: “She is being incredibly brave. She went in with her head held high.”
