Tony Hudgell, now nine, was the victim of such horrendous abuse that he had to have both legs amputated - but his tragic start didn’t stop him from raising an incredible £500,000 for charity
The King has invited a brave nine-year-old lad - who had both legs amputated as a result of horrendous abuse - to his garden party this week.
Back in 2020, little Tony Hudgell inspired the UK by raising £2million for charity when he was just five years old. To thank the medics at Evelina Children’s Hospital who saved his life, the boy set off on a 10km walk on his prosthetic legs. He far exceeded his initial target to raise an incredible £500,000.
Paula Hudgell, Tony’s adoptive mother, announced he was "over the moon" when he received the invite from the King himself to attend a garden party at Buckingham palace on Wednesday. Paula wrote on Twitter: “Tony is over the moon and excited to have been invited by The King to the Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace this Wednesday - let’s hop[e] the sun is shining.”
It comes after the Royal Family snubbed Prince Archie’s birthday to celebrate the one-year anniversary of Charles’ Coronation instead.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s son turns five today and, though the Royal Family used to send birthday wishes to the Sussexes, even after they stepped down as senior working royals, there has been no mention of the occasion on its official social media accounts today.
Instead, a post on X commemorates the one-year anniversary of King Charles’ Coronation. The happy occasion saw the whole family out in force to watch Charles finally be crowned alongside Queen Camilla in a spectacular ceremony at Westminster Abbey.
The post reads: "Today marks the first anniversary of The King and Queen’s Coronation in @wabbey. As well as the service itself, the Coronation Weekend saw a carriage procession through central London, a fly-past, a Royal Salute by 4,000 troops in the gardens of Buckingham Palace, a Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle and a UK-wide volunteering initiative.
