Prince William embarks on an emotional return to work, while Kate Middleton and King Charles confront battles with cancer

Prince William will bravely return to royal duties today while his wife Kate Middleton continues to recover from cancer and his father King Charles responds well to treatment

Prince William is set to return to his Royal duties with an emotional trip today, Thursday, for the first time following the cancer diagnosis of his beloved wife, Princess Kate. His return involves paying a visit to Surplus to Supper, a charity in Surrey that deals with surplus food distribution, where he will contribute in the kitchen and load the prepared meals on delivery vans. Following this, William is heading to a youth centre in West London, one of the beneficiaries of Surplus to Supper’s deliveries.

The 41-year-old prince had taken a pause from his duties, spending the past three-and-a-half weeks of the Easter holidays with his family while they processed Kate’s illness. Additionally, his father, King Charless, is also undergoing treatment for cancer, and is said to be responding well to it.

In a heartfelt video message broadcasted to the nation on March 22, Princess Kate asked for time, space, and privacy for her family as they navigated her chemotherapy treatment.

"I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family," she said, soothingly adding: "It has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be okay."

Established in 2017, the charity, Surplus to Supper, manages an average of ten tons of food weekly, which it sources and distributes to food banks, schools, care homes, religious organisations and youth centres. William’s schedule includes heading to Sunbury Cricket Club, the charity’s headquarters, to join hands with volunteers working towards bridging the gap between food waste and food poverty across Surrey and London.

"Reducing food waste has a considerable number of environmental benefits, including reducing emissions from landfill that contribute to climate change", the Palace stated, further adding: "Protecting the environment for future generations is one of the Prince of Wales’s key priorities."

Prince William’s most recent public engagement was on March 19, when he travelled to Sheffield to advocate for his Homewards homelessness campaign.

Kensington Palace had previously announced that William would recommence public engagements after the school holidays, albeit on a reduced schedule as he continues to support Kate during her treatment.

Last week, William was spotted taking his eldest son, Prince George, to an Aston Villa football match, cheering on his childhood club as they defeated Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. This marked his first public appearance since the announcement of Kate’s illness.

Kate’s cancer was detected in post-operative tests following her abdominal surgery in January.
