The UK is set to be hit by a 42-hour snow blast as temperatures plummet across the country, with one part of England set to be worst-hit by the sub zero conditions weather

Brace yourselves, Britain - a ’42 hour snow blast’ is set to sweep across the nation, with certain areas expected to bear the brunt of the icy onslaught. Weather maps have painted a chilly picture, indicating that nearly every corner of the UK will be engulfed by a polar freeze.

As we venture further into April and edge closer to May, forecasters are predicting a "Jekyll and Hyde" scenario for the weather. The latest data from WX Charts, utilising Met Desk figures, suggests temperatures will take a nosedive starting at midnight on Tuesday, April 23, plunging the country into a deep chill until 6pm on Wednesday, April 24. Scotland could experience biting lows of minus five degrees.

England isn’t spared either, with highs struggling to reach 3C, while Scotland and parts of the Pennines are on alert for snowfall. Both WX Charts and Jim Dale, the founder and senior meteorological consultant at British Weather Services, foresee a light sprinkling of snow.

Jim Dale commented: "Out of the sublime quiet weather into something notably colder with some transient snow for northern areas a possibility." He further remarked on the unpredictable nature of April’s climate, saying: "April is the month of Jekyll and Hyde weather and this spell is likely one of Mr Hyde showing his teeth."

Adding to the frosty forecast, Birmingham Live reports James Madden from Exacta Weather as warning: "Temporary snow risk across parts of Scotland, northern England, and later to parts of central and southern England Tuesday evening and early morning... As covered within our much earlier reports for this period and when others were showing high confidence indications for a pattern change to warmer weather instead."

He further stated: "Following on from this will see high pressure and more settled weather finally beginning to take hold; however, it is still likely to be on the cool side to begin with, and before temperatures start to finally warm up significantly during the final third of April and into early May, as covered in all of our earlier and longer-range weather reports for in and 20th April onwards and preceding a cold period. It is within this period that we could see maximum temperatures ranging in the mid to high 20’s, at the very least for the first time this year and over a sustained time period."
