Greater Manchester Police were called to a road in Moss Side, Manchester, earlier today after a teenager was stabbed on Raby Street, where a cordon remains in place
A murder investigation has been launched after the death of a teenage boy who was stabbed earlier today.
Greater Manchester Police officers were called shortly after 4.15pm to reports of a stabbing on Raby Street, Moss Side, Manchester. The victim, a 17-year-old who is yet to be named, was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The young victim has now died, prompting a murder probe by officers.
Police have confirmed the young man’s family have been told and are being supported by specially trained officers. Detective Superintendent Simon Moyles said: “This is a tragic and senseless loss of life and our thoughts remain with the victim’s family and friends at this time.
"They will remain at the forefront of our minds as we move forwards in our investigation to track down the person or persons responsible. Whilst no arrests have been made at this time, I want to assure the local community that a visible police presence will be in place in the local area over the coming days for reassurance and to carry out enquiries as we work tirelessly to apprehend those responsible and bring them to justice.
“We are continuing to appeal for any information or relevant footage, including mobile, CCTV, doorbell or dashcam. Any information you have will be treated with the strictest confidence and if you do have information to share, I urge you to do the right thing and report it to police.”
Superintendent Muzemil Kernain of GMP’s City of Manchester district, earlier said: “We understand the local community will be quite rightly shocked when hearing this news and we will continue to provide a visible reassurance in the area over the coming days in the form of on-foot patrol officers, vehicle patrols and covert patrols.
“We are appealing for any information the public may have to come forward and speak to us, it will be treated with the strictest confidence, and I am particularly keen if there is any mobile phone or dashcam footage of the incident or its immediate aftermath.”
Moss Side councillor Erinma Bell described the attack to Manchester Evening News as a "great injustice". She added: "I implore people to come forward with any information they may have with regards to this young man’s death. That little piece you have seen or heard could bring people to justice.
"This is a great injustice. My sincere condolences go out to the families of the young men involved, it is such sad information. The police are doing everything they can with their investigations, and we are reassuring the local residents that there will be more visible policing out on the streets."
