David and Victoria Beckham could win a TV BAFTA for their Netflix documentary series about their lives - as they are up for a public voted gong.
The husband and wife, aged 48 and 49 respectively, released a four-part documentary series titled Beckham last year. The show was received some criticism for showing off all the glitz of the famous family’s lives and glossed over or completely ignored the negative parts - but the show did spawn some meme-able moments.
The most memorable part for many was when Victoria insisted she had a working class upbringing. But David interrupted her claim and demanded she “Be honest” - and the former Spice Girl eventually conceded that her father drove her to school every morning in a Rolls-Royce.
The amusing moment saw the couple get mocked online and Victoria even poked fun at herself by sporting a t-shirt that stated: “My Dad Had a Rolls-Royce.” But now the moment has been picked out as one of the nominated TV moments for the 2024 TV BAFTAs P&O Cruises Memorable Moment Award.

A TV insider told The Sun: “Posh and Becks' documentary Beckham faces some stiff competition, but given how many viewers watched the show on Netflix it might just triumph on the back of people power.

“And the fact that they are in such esteemed company among the incredible nominees shows just what a big impression it made. There were some incredible TV moments during 2023, but the Beckhams can count on fans backing them in the voting. It's the only category where the public get to have their say.”
Vicky and Dave will face stiff competition, however, as there are four more iconic TV moments in the category. They will be against BBC One's Doctor Who with Ncuti Gatwa being revealed as the 15th Doctor, BBC One's Happy Valley with Catherine Cawood and Tommy Lee Royce’s final kitchen showdown, Sky Atlantic's Succession with Logan Roy’s Death, Sky Atlantic's The Last Of Us with the story of Bill and Frank, and Channel 4's The Piano when 13-year old Lucy stuns commuters with jaw dropping piano performance.
P&O Cruises president, Paul Ludlow, said of the public-voted award: “Once again, there were so many unforgettable scenes that took place on our television screens last year. The jurors have done a fantastic job in selecting the final shortlist and I hope that the public have enjoyed these and will vote for their favourite memorable TV moment of the year.”
And Hilary Rosen, Chair of BAFTA’s Television Committee, said: “Convening lively debate on the best TV water-cooler moments of 2023 as part of the Memorable Moment jury was a real pleasure – I’m so pleased that the resulting nominations span a great range of budgets, broadcasters and streamers, and genres, demonstrating impact can be achieved in so many creative ways. We are so looking forward to seeing the conversations it sparks amongst viewers at home, and who they will award on the night.”
The BAFTA Television Awards with P&O Cruises will air on BBC One and iPlayer on Sunday 12th May.
