Woman dies after being found in life-threatening condition following fire

A woman has died after being found with life-threatening injuries which she sustained in a fire.

On Monday morning, police, paramedics and fire crews visited the scene of the fire on Edge Green Lane in Golbourne, Manchester. Having sustained life-threatening injuries at the time, Greater Manchester Police has since confirmed that the woman has died. Additional details about her age, and details of the fire have not yet been confirmed.

The incident is currently believed to be non-suspicious, Manchester Evening News reports. Investigations will continue until the circumstances surrounding the blaze are established - and anyone with information has been urged to contact the police. A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Greater Manchester Police responded to an incident at Edge Green Lane on 11 March 2024 at around 9.20am. Emergency services were in attendance into a reported fire to make the property safe.

"A woman was found in a life-threatening condition and has since sadly passed away despite the best attempts of emergency service personnel. Her family are being supported by officers at this time. Enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances but it is believed to be non-suspicious."

On March 1, a huge fire broke out in a building above a Burger King in Manchester city centre with firefighters seen racing to the scene. Seven fire engines and their crews were in attendance as smoke billowed into the sky, but no-one was injured. A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “Shortly after 11am today (Friday March 1) five fire engines from Manchester Central, Moss Side, Salford, Blackley, and Broughton fire stations were called to reports of a fire involving a commercial building on Market Street, Manchester. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are using two hose reels and a jet to tackle the fire. Crews remain in attendance.”
