A loud "crash" echoed through Nottingham city centre when the sign of The Loxley pub fell to the ground shocking revellers.

The pub, located on Pelham Street, lost its large sign on Wednesday afternoon, with people noticing that the sign, reading 'The Loxley', had fallen onto the street.

The sign, as wide as the pub itself, was previously positioned above the windows and door on the building's exterior. Crowds started to gather after the incident, with many startled by the sudden fall of the sign.

It's not clear why the sign fell from the pub, but some think it might be due to recent strong winds. Edward Jean-Jacques, a resident of Forest Fields, said: "I literally came out the gym and heard a crash but didn't think nothing of it being the middle of town. He looked up and saw a crowd gathering in front of The Loxley."

The 52 year old added: "I spoke to a few Thurland regulars who also heard it from inside the pub including the landlady." In a video of the incident sent to Nottinghamshire Live, the long sign can be seen lying on the ground, with several people stopping to see what happened and take photos. Wood panels where the sign used to be are still visible on the building, reports Nottinghamshire Live.

It also seems that the sign pulled down some of the exterior as it fell. No one was hurt in the incident and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were not called to the scene. Stonegate Group, which runs the pub, was contacted by Nottinghamshire Live for a statement.
