Princess of Wales is recovering well and will be back by Easter, royal insiders have claimed.

Kate, 42, publicly admitted editing the family snap taken by Prince of Wales, 41, and released by Kensington Palace on Mother's Day. It is said she will be feeling "miserable" over the storm surrounding the image, which showed her and her three children - Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and five-year-old Prince Louis.

But a royal insider has reportedly claimed Princess Kate is recovering well following abdominal surgery in January, carried out at The London Clinic in the centre of the capital. The mother of three may be able to return to official duties by Easter - in just over two weeks' time - the source added.

"The rumour mill — particularly on social media — has gotten out of control, but Kate is recovering well and she will be back by Easter. She just needs to be left in peace," the insider told a celebrity news publication.

Despite calls for the original image to be published, Kensington Palace insisted it would not be reissuing the unedited photograph of Princess of Wales and her children. Sources have said the scrutiny Kate faces could tip into the realm of bullying and she needs peace to recover from her major operation.

The insider, talking to Page Six, also declared the royal is under "an awful lot of scrutiny," stressing this can be particularly difficult after surgery. Kate had the operation in January and Kensington Palace had said, at the time, she would be unable to return to any royal duties until after Easter.

Jennie Bond, former BBC royal correspondent, told GB News this week: "We are in danger of bullying a lady who is trying to recover from a very serious operation. I think of how she must be feeling this morning. Absolutely miserable, I think.

"Her Mother's Day was obviously ruined by this row. She was photographed yesterday in the car with William. From what we can see, she didn't look that happy, she must feel under intense pressure now whenever she's going to be seen in public."

It is understood Kate edited the picture, which William reportedly took on Friday, so "her children looked good". The future queen said sorry for the "confusion" over the digitally altered image, which caused the world’s biggest photo agencies to delete it from their libraries accessed by millions.

In a statement, Kate said: "Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C" The Mirror has approached Kensington Palace for comment today.
