Emergency services today scrambled to a crash near Windsor Castle involving two cars and two pedestrians.

Dramatic pictures showed a Polestar - an electric car firm owned by Volvo- crumpled up against the walls of Windsor Castle following the collision this morning. Two other vehicles were also involved in the incident which saw police and ambulances close off the road. Five people received "emergency care," the fire service confirmed.

Police and ambulances close the road off at the castle in the Berkshire town. The road - Thames Street - is believed to be closed for some time. Mirror has contacted South Central Ambulance Service for comment.

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson, said: "Thames Valley Police received a report of a road traffic collision at 7.50am this morning (12/3) on Thames Street, Windsor. The road is expected to be closed for some time.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact the force by calling 101 or making a report online quoting reference number 43240115038."

Two fire crews were sent to the scene and spent more than one hour making it safe. A spokesperson for Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 7:49am on Tuesday, 12 March, we received reports of a road traffic collision on Thames Street in Windsor.

"Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Slough and Windsor fire stations were sent to the scene alongside an officer. Upon arrival, crews discovered a collision involving two vehicles and two pedestrians. Firefighters made the scene safe and provided immediate emergency care to five people before placing them in the care of South Central Ambulance Service. Crews were at the scene for approximately one hour and 16 minutes."

A spokesperson for South Central Ambulance Service said: “South Central Ambulance Service were called to a road traffic collision this morning (12 March) in Windsor.

“A team leader, an ambulance and two helicopter emergency medical service cars attended the incident, supporting our Thames Valley Police and Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service colleagues.

“Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact TVP by calling 101 or making a report online quoting reference number 43240115038.”
