Robert De Niro awkwardly laughed off an embarrassing blunder at Sunday night's Academy Awards in Los Angeles.

Oscar-winning actor Tim Robbins was introducing the legendary Hollywood star as a nominee for Best Supporting Actor before slipping up his words live on-air. The gaffe played out during last night's star-studded ceremony at the Dolby Theatre.

De Niro was up for the prize after his performance William Hale in Killers of the Flower Moon, but former Best Actor winner Robbins couldn't quite get his words out, stumbling when speaking about Robert's iconic career and starring performance in the new flick.

"His latest performance in Killers of the Flower Moon delivers a different type of evil, not of a mobster or psychotic loner, but of a businessman consumed by greed and his lust for power," he explained, all before making the awkward blunder.

Tim added: "Mr. De Niro, in an Oscar-winning - Oscar-worthy performance ... should be winning." Quickly attempting to save himself after seemingly saving himself, cameras turned to The Godfather's Robert who appeared to laugh at the embarrassing moment.

It wasn't the only blunder of the night, arguably one of the biggest came from De Niro's former co-star Al Pacino. He made quite the error, seemingly forgetting his rehearsals while on stage. Al was tasked with announcing the Best Picture winner but failed to mention some important information.

Pacino seemed to have forgotten how to do his job as he announced Oppenheimer as Best Picture winner, saying: "Best Picture…uh, I have to go to the envelope for that. And I will. Here it comes. And my eyes see Oppenheimer?"

Viewers were confused as hosts usually read out the nominees before announcing the winner. One fan said on X: "I'm obsessed with the way Al Pacino announced Oppenheimer as Best Picture. couldn't have been more chaotic or confusing lol."

Another added: "'My eyes see Oppenheimer?' Al Pacino with an all time #Oscars moment." A third viewer commented: "Al Pacino was like, 'I ain’t standing here while you read out 10 nominees bro. Oppenheimer come get your s**t'."

Despite this, film producer Emma Thomas and director Nolan went on stage to accept the award and gave a heartfelt speech. Nolan said: "Movies are just a little bit over 100 years old. We don't know where this incredible journey is going from here.

"But to know that you think I'm a meaningful part of it means the world to me." He thanked those who have supported him throughout his career including a heartfelt shoutout to his wife Emma who produced the movie.
