A pizza delivery driver won a whopping £500,000 in a competition - and went back to work the next day.

Marius Preda, on £12 an hour as a delivery driver with Papa John's, scooped the dough on the Best of the Best plc (BOTB) competition. It is roughly 20 times what Marius, a married dad-of-one, earns in a year. The 28-year-old man now plans to buy a house and go on holiday, but he's been back at work since the prize draw last month. He has been in the job since he arrived in the UK from his native Romania in 2019.

Marius, who lives with his wife Alina and their family in Tamworth, Staffordshire, said: "I’m going to take some time to think about it but we would love to buy a new house and go on holiday." Papa John’s pays delivery drivers around £12 per hour - which works out to £480 a week based on working 40 hours. Per year, that adds up to a salary of £24,960.

Down-to-earth Marius continued: "I’m absolutely delighted to have won and am full of emotions. Winning this amount of money is life-changing and it’s going to take some time to sink in.”

A BOTB spokesperson said: "Marius, who has been working as a pizza delivery driver for about four years and was back at work the next day. He was also planning to spend the money on a new home for him and his family.” Meanwhile, BOTB presenter Christian Williams said: “A huge congratulations to Marius on winning this amazing cash prize in our biggest-ever competition giveaway.

“We’re always looking at new ways to give people the chance to win some fantastic prizes, and it was great to be able to surprise Marius in the way we did. I know how hard it is for a lot of people at the moment and £500,000 is a life-changing amount of money. It has got to be the best tip any delivery driver has ever received.”
