Prince George's dream job is the same one his father, Prince William, had when he was a child - but since the Prince of Wales is heir to the throne, and his eldest son is second in line, none of them could pursue an alternative career.

According to author Andrew Morton, who wrote a biography of Princess Diana, William's passion linked back to his late mum. Recalling a conversation Diana had with her sons, William and Harry, Mr Morton said the Prince of Wales dreamed of becoming a policeman to defend his mum.

The biographer said: "William and Harry were aware of their destiny. On one occasion the boys were discussing their futures with Diana. When I grow up I want to be a policeman and look after you Mummy,' said William. Quick as a flash Harry replied, with a note of triumph in his voice, 'Oh no you can't, you've got to be king'."

And it seems the vision of becoming a policeman runs in the family as Prince William previously revealed that his eldest son Prince George was also "obsessed" with the police, reports the Daily Record. Police Commissioner Jayne Richardson told William that more officers were required in the area during a reception at Kensington Palace in honour of Scotland Yard. She said: "We are recruiting, actually, so if George and Charlotte are keen?"

William then laughed and quipped: "[George] is obsessed, actually, by the police… cars, toys, everything." His son's interest in the police was revealed on his list to Santa when he was younger, with only one written wish, for a police car. Robert Lacey speculated about Prince George's future in an updated version of his book 'Battle of Brothers'. He wrote: "William has not revealed to the world how and when he broke the big news to his son.

"Maybe one day George will tell us the story himself. But sometime around the boy's seventh birthday in the summer of 2020, it is thought that his parents went into more detail about what the little prince's life of future royal 'service and duty' would particularly involve."

Last week, we reported that Prince George is "obsessed" with snakes. The 10-year-old aevealed a huge lover of reptiles on a royal engagement in Northern Ireland in September 2021, when the then-Duke and Duchess of Cambridge came face to face with some real-life creepy crawlies.

The couple were at a petting zoo at Ulster University's Magee campus, which was shown to them as a demonstration of animals being used to help with mental health. Catherine got to hold a tarantula named Charlotte - although whether the arachnid was named after their second child Princess Charlotte is unclear.

Prince William also got to handle a snake on the petting zoo visit, revealing a little-known fact about his eldest child. "George is obsessed with snakes, he' going to be so upset he missed this," the royal told onlookers.
