Armed police rushed to a cemetery in Tameside this morning after a woman was attacked by a dog and was taken to the hospital.
Witnesses reported seeing a large police response, including several firearms officers, at Hurst Cross Cemetery in Ashton-under-Lyne in Greater Manchester earlier this afternoon. According to reports, a woman was bitten on her leg by a dog at about 1.25pm.
The dog was secured and armed officers stood down, without firing their weapons. A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "At around 1.25pm today, officers responded to reports of a dog attacking a female in Hurst Cemetery, Prospect Road, Ashton-under-Lyne.
A woman was bitten by a dog and was taken to the hospital (MEN Media)"Officers attended and the dog was subsequently secured. The female was taken to hospital with non life-threatening or changing injuries."
Images from the scene show a "no dogs allowed" sign and another notice saying there is a "dog exclusion order" across the cemetery. The notices, which feature the Tameside Council logo, say "no dogs allowed in the cemetery grounds", apart from guide dogs. The notices add that there is a maximum penalty of £1,000, reports the Manchester Evening News.

A sign saying dogs are not allowed at the cemetery (MEN Media)It was the second police incident at a cemetery in Greater Manchester today. Part of Southern Cemetery in south Manchester has been cordoned off this afternoon amid an ongoing police incident.
Emergency services, including the air ambulance, are at the graveyard off Barlow Moor Road in Chorlton. Witnesses said a number of police vehicles and ambulances are also in attendance. Pictures from the scene show part of a roundabout near the Barlow Moor entrance taped off, with the air ambulance having landed within the cordon.
