Despite their soaring popularity, there's no denying air fryers can be a pain to clean.

In recent years, air fryers have boomed into the zeitgeist and quickly become a kitchen staple in the UK - beloved by Brits across the nation for helping them cut down on energy bills amid the cost-of-living crisis. They're extremely versatile, easy to store away, and are often a cheaper alternative than using a conventional oven.

But, they're also infamous for being difficult to keep clean - as stubborn bits of food can easily get stuck inside the basket. Luckily, there's an easy solution - but nobody everybody is convinced.

TikTok channel KneelBrown has amassed a loyal following due to its 'easy dinner ideas and food inspiration' - with some videos exceeding a whopping 1.9 million views. In a recent video, the account shows how to cook a sausage sarnie without causing a mess.

"Top tip: Cook your sausage on your bread," the caption reads, as he lines the air fryer with three slices of white bread before laying four sausages directly on top. The account says you end up with 'sausage fried bread' that 'doesn't stick'.

People took to the comments section to rave about the tip - with one person saying you can do the same when cooking bacon. "To be honest, if this works you are a genius," one person wrote - to which another user replied: "It does."

However, not everybody was convinced with the hack - with one user branding it 'ridiculous'. "That's the most disturbing thing I've seen," one person wrote. Another joked: "Top tip... please don't do this. I will call the police." While a third added: "I just hope it wouldn't be soggy and dry at the same time."

For those reluctant to trying the hack, fear not - as one simple cleaning method has been described as a complete 'game-changer' by social media users. Content creator Ciara Turley went viral after showing how she cleans her air fryer, without having to spend hours scrubbing it.

She recommends adding a 'squirt' of washing-up liquid in the air fryer basket (removed from the appliance completely) as well as a tablespoon of baking powder. Turley then fills the basket up with boiling water and leaves it alone for 20 minutes to work its magic.

Then, simply pour out the water (avoid dumping it into the sink as this could cause blockages) then rinse with warm water. Make sure you dry the basket and racks with a paper towel before adding any food in.
