Tommy Fury calls out Conor McGregor - but has no chance of UFC star accepting

Tommy Fury has called out Conor McGregor for his next boxing fight - but doesn't stand a chance of fighting the UFC legend.

The Love Island star and brother of heavyweight champion Tyson hasn't set foot in the ring since winning a controversial decision against YouTube boxer KSI last October. Fury is currently taking some time away from boxing after battling a hand injury but said he wants to fight McGregor in his ring return.

“I’m looking to get this [injury] out the way, nice and recovered," Fury told DAZN Boxing. "I’ve seen that Jake Paul is fighting Mike Tyson, I mean why not me and McGregor next? I’ve got a comeback fight and I’d like him for my return so McGregor, get in touch."

McGregor lost his boxing debut against ring legend Floyd Mayweather seven years ago in a fight that 4.3million pay-per-view buys. The Irishman was pardoned of his UFC contractual duties for that fight because of its magnitude, but likely won't be able to step foot in the ring until his deal with the promotion is up.

The former two-weight UFC champion mapped out his plan for this year which starts with a fight against Michael Chandler, rematch against Nate Diaz and boxing match against Manny Pacquiao to see out the year. "I wish for this on Mexican Independence Day in the sphere," McGregor wrote of fighting Diaz for the third time on Instagram.

"It's still there. Could be December. The Saudi's are game changers in the market 100 per cent," he said of fighting Pacquiao. McGregor signed his last UFC contract in the autumn of 2018, just before his mega-fight against bitter rival Khabib Nurmagomedov. It's understood the Irishman has two fights left on his deal, which has a five-year expiration date.

This meant his deal should have expired last year, although this could have been pushed back by a year because McGregor was ineligible to compete for most of 2023 after dropping out of the USADA drug-testing pool. McGregor has been tested four times this year ahead of his comeback fight against Chandler, which is being targeted for June 29 in Las Vegas.
