'Genius' way to make super healthy ginger shots for as little as 11p a pop

Taking a swift shot in the morning might not be everyone’s idea of a healthy start but a decent dose of ginger and vitamin C is a great way of keeping your body in top condition. However, if like many of us, you only remember to do it when faced with the prospect in a cafe (Pret, we’re looking at you) then you’ll know just how expensive they can be.

Ginger shots have huge health benefits, ranging from immune-boosting properties to soothing everyday digestive distress. Plus, mixing it with vitamin C, turmeric and pepper can help to maintain a healthy metabolism.

If you want the health benefits without breaking the bank, then thankfully it’s never been easier to make a stock of the tonic at home. Influencer Mikaela Hess, who often shares wellness recipes on TikTok, revealed her own take on the shot, showing just how simple the formula is and it could cost you just 11p a shot!

Taking a sizable chunk of ginger, Mikaela chopped it up into small bits leaving the skin on, before chopping the rind off a large orange and two lemons, adding to a blender with a glass of water, a dash of nutmeg, turmeric, cinnamon, and a squeeze of honey.

Blitzing together until smooth, Mikaela poured the mixture onto a sheet of cheesecloth in a bowl and squeezed out all the juice and keeping out all the pulp. After straining the juice, it was separated into eight small glass bottles to be stored in the fridge.

People watching Mikaela’s instructions were loving her recipe but many thought she’d wasted a good portion of the lemons and orange by using a knife to take the skin off, rather than just peel it. Lots of people loved that she used a cheesecloth to strain the mixture, calling the idea "genius" and "so easy".
