It's far from quiet at Anfield ahead of Liverpool's mouthwatering showdown against title rivals Manchester City on Sunday.

The Reds eventually edged past Nottingham Forest in controversial fashion at the weekend to ensure they would remain atop of the Premier League, and the drama has continued off the pitch as the Anfield hierarchy continue to search for Jurgen Klopp's successor.

Xabi Alonso has emerged as the No.1 candidate to replace the German when he stands down at the end of the season, however, Bayern Munich are also keen on the Spaniard. There's also every chance that Alonso could choose to stay at Bayer Leverkusen, who are on course to win their first ever German title.

Xabi Alonso would prefer to join Bayern Munich rather than Liverpool if he does decide to leave Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, it has been claimed.

The highly-rated Spaniard is a man in demand after impressing in his first managerial role in Germany and quickly emerged as the standout candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

However, Bayern Munich are also in the market for a new head coach this summer and have already opened talks with Alonso, per Sky Germany. And according to that same report, Alonso's preference between Bayern and Liverpool would be the German champions.

Liverpool have been given a transfer boost as Crystal Palace seek a summer replacement for long-term Reds target Marc Guehi.

The £50million-rated England defender has been on the radar of a host of top Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, for some time - and it now seems Palace are open to selling their prized centre-half at the end of the season.

According to The Telegraph, Palace have dropped the clearest hint yet that Guehi will be moving on by scouring Europe for another centre-half ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Egypt have called Mohamed Salah up for international duty later this month, despite the fact that Liverpool forward is currently sidelined.

The Reds talisman has featured just twice for Liverpool since the turn of the year after sustaining an injury at the Africa Cup of Nations but is thought to be nearing a return to full fitness ahead of this weekend's match against Manchester City.

Salah's lack of action hasn't deterred Egypt from calling the influential forward up for their international commitments later this month - and they plan to use Salah if he features at all for Liverpool over the next fortnight according to Ehab El-Komy, a member of the Egypt FA.
