It's no secret the royals are big animal lovers - from the late Queen's lifelong love of corgis to Princess Anne's affinity for horses.

But there's one particular creature which is a favourite of one of the youngest royals. According to their dad Prince William, Prince George is 'obsessed' with snakes.

The 10-year-old and second in line to the throne revealed a huge lover of reptiles on a royal engagement in Northern Ireland in September 2021, when the then-Duke and Duchess of Cambridge came face to face with some real-life creepy crawlies.

The couple were at a petting zoo at Ulster University's Magee campus, which was shown to them as a demonstration of animals being used to help with mental health. Kate got to hold a tarantula named Charlotte - although whether the arachnid was named after their second child Princess Charlotte is unclear.

Prince William also got to handle a snake on the petting zoo visit, revealing a little-known fact about his eldest child. "George is obsessed with snakes, he’s going to be so upset he missed this," the royal told onlookers.

The couple also shared how they had amassed plenty of furry and feathered friends over recent years. "We’ve had lots of animals during lockdown," Kate told one of the pet handlers during the engagement, with William revealing they also had "lots of chickens".

While Princess Charlotte may have missed out on meeting her eight-legged namesake on the visit, the eight-year-old is said to also be a huge fan of the bugs. In a recent clip shared by the royals of the children talking to Sir David Attenborough, the young princess asked the conservationist: "I like spiders, do you like spiders too?".

Sir David replied that he also shared her love for spiders, adding "I'm so glad you like them!" While all big fans of creepy crawlies, the family are also known to be big dog lovers, too. The Wales family currently have a pet spaniel Orla, their second dog after the previous pooch, Lupo, who sadly died in 2021.
