Meghan Markle previously made a "clever" dig at the Royal Family while discussing her role on her Archetypes podcast.

The series, which only lasted for one season on Spotify, saw the Duchess of Sussex aim a jibe in the Royal Family's direction, albeit subtly. In the finale of the series, Meghan reflected on what she had learned so far on her journey, both with herself and her past podcast guests, including Serena Williams, Paris Hilton and Mariah Carey.

Meghan said on the episode which was released in November last year: "I feel seen. I had never considered that in using my voice that I would feel seen, but I do."

She continued: "Many moons ago, I heard a quote that I will share with you today. Because as we talk about labels, tropes, and boxes that some may try to squeeze you into and roles and stereotypes that are attributed to you that don’t quite fit the full person you are …"

The quote she went on to share came from a a couplet within a piece of writing by Greek poet Dinos Christianopoulos. In it, says: "What didn’t you do to bury me/but you forgot that I was a seed."

Meghan concluded: "To that point, my friend, keep growing, and I’ll see you on the flip side."

Royal biographer and commentator Phil Dampier told the Sun this was a subtle way for Meghan to hit out at the Royal Family. He told the publication: "I’m sure that it was a veiled reference to the restrictions of the royal family. It’s a clever way of doing it because she’s not directly saying something.

"People can still read into it what they like. Then, if anyone takes offence, she can say, 'Oh, I didn’t mean it like that.'"

Despite the huge deal with Spotify being axed, Meghan recently revealed she will take her project to another platform. Last month she announced her new link-up with Lemonada as she aims to continue her "love of podcasting". The new partnership will see podcast network Lemonada distribute the first season of Meghan's podcast Archetypes for all audio platforms.

Following on from that, she will also produce a new series, which currently is untitled. Meghan said at the time of release: ""I'm proud to now be able to share that I am joining the brilliant team at Lemonada to continue my love of podcasting. Being able to support a female founded company with a roster of thought provoking and highly entertaining podcasts is a fantastic way to kick off 2024.

"Our plan to re-release Archetypes so that more people can now have access to it, as well as launching a dynamic new podcast are well in the works. I'm so eager to be able to share it soon, and am overjoyed to be joining the Lemonada family."
