Trigger Point viewers were in for some tense scenes on Sunday night, as the ITV drama's second series came to an explosive end.

Vicky McClure's character Lana Washington faced a deadly ultimatum, that saw her life on the line as well as that of her parents, and plenty of others. Lana was tested after being kidnapped by the terror group who had not only claimed the life of her on/off lover DCI Thom Youngblood, but also killed several others in a series of bomb attacks.

Lana had been on track to catch the group and stop their actions, only to be kidnapped with her forced to help them carry out one final attack. Lana was told she had to take on their next mission, with the Home Secretary their latest target.

With her and others heading to Counter-Terrorism HQ for an emergency meeting, Hope and the others in the terrorist group decided this was the perfect location for their next act, and Lana was tasked with transporting an explosive device into the building. Lana was warned that explosives had been placed in the home of her mum and dad, and if she went against their plan her parents would die.

When Lana was unable to get their prepared device into the building, she offered to prepare one inside the compound to detonate at the right time using the phone they had set up as the detonator - with them needing to enter a four-digit code that only they had access to. Knowing they had hacked the cameras and would watch her every move, Lana had to be clever about what she was seen doing, and how she alerted certain people to what was going on.

Hope and the group had no idea Lana was one step ahead of them, as she changed the sim card in the phone attached to the original device, which was now remaining in the van. She changed it to the sim card from a now deceased Alex's phone, meaning she was able to remember the number off by heart.

She then changed the settings on the phone she had been given, that was meant to trigger the explosion, so that when called it would redirect the call to the phone and sim card still in the van. So when Hope triggered the phone call to the phone in Lana's possession and entered the code, instead of this phone ringing and setting off the explosive, it would instead trigger a call to the phone attached to the device in the van, therefore causing an explosion here instead of in the HQ.

As they taunted Lana before preparing to detonate Lana's homemade device, believing this to be where the sim card was, Lana just needed to ensure she carried out their plan long enough for them to remain unaware of what was really going on. In tense scenes Lana's plan almost fell apart, as DS Helen Morgan and DI Amar Batra both sensed something wasn't right with the meeting, with Lana being there after recent drama.

Helen alerted officials and armed police made their way towards the meeting room ready to stop Lana, believing she might be up to something. Luckily Lana managed to shove the bomb towards the intended victim making Hope believe now was the time to detonate the explosive.

Of course as they detonated, they realised Lana had set them up and the van exploded killing them. After, Lana was able to explain everything and was also able to save her parents with the help of her colleagues.

Viewers loved the twist, as many commented about the tense scenes. Taking to X, one fan posted: "Oh thank christ for that," as another said: "That was smart! I did appreciate that."

A third posted: "Yes Lana!!!!" as others commented on the episode leaving them "on edge". A viewer wrote: "It's a bit much when my fitbit asks how im feeling," as another said: "This season has had me on edge EVERY episode."

Another commented: "God, Mercurio does know how to ratchet up the tension, doesn’t he?!" while a fourth confessed: "I’ve got palpitations." A further comment read: "Fair play. This is proper tense."
