Rumours are abuzz that a Fortnite live event is coming our way next week to tie off the current season and start off Chapter 5 Season 4 with map changes and more in store.

Fortnite is like a mischievous puppy, you take your eyes off it for one minute and it's pooped on the floor, ripped apart the lino, and performed a hostile takeover of a billion dollar company. The team over at Epic Games has been churning out updates and new features non-stop, and as we rush towards the Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 start date, more and more is coming out about the upcoming season.

Rumblings of a Fortnite live event featuring giant gods and monsters have appeared, as hints in the games files and on the Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1 map are starting to come to light. Considering the Fortnite live event hasn't even been officially announced by Epic yet, it won't be a shock if I tell you we're not 100% sure yet. However, based on previous Fortnite live events we have a pretty good idea.

While leakers had previously predicted the Fortnite live event would happen earlier than expected, nothing came of it, but thanks to some cracks on the map, we know the Fortnite live event is still happening – possibly as soon as Saturday, March 2!

Fortnite live event: date and time

The Fortnite live event start time has been a bit of a rollercoaster but if you're just catching up now, strap in! There is definitely a Fortnite live event happening, with an Epic Games dev chiming to to say as much. We initially had the date pegged for the end of next week, when Chapter 5 Season 1 ends as most Fortnite live events usually take place at the end of a given season to pave the way to the new one – this was the case with Chapter 2 Season 4's Galactus event, and was still the case as recently as the Fortnite The Big Bang live event which closed out Fortnite OG.

Then a number of reputable leakers and dataminers surrounding the game piped up on Thursday, February 29 to say that the Fortnite live event would be happening that evening – but there wasn't so much as a fingernail of a Titan Hand to be seen. However, a crated on the map appeared surrounded by cracks with one of them filling with magma earlier today. It seemed likely that this was an in-game countdown of sorts, and if we saw one crack per day fill with magma, the Fortnite live event start date would fall on Tuesday, March 5 or Wednesday, March 6 depending on how the crater that the cracks are surrounding works.

However, the latest development has seen a second magma line appear already! And now leakers are suggesting a revised Fortnite live event date of Saturday, March 2 at around 6-7pm GMT / 1-2pm EST / 10-11am PST. Given yesterday's disappointment, we're not going to get our hopes up just yet, but this seems somewhat feasible taking into account what's happening on the map. We'll keep an eye on leaker accounts and the crater itself and relay any more updates on the Fortnite live event start time so you don't miss it.

Fortnite live event: how to watch

At the moment – again due to the live event not being officially announced yet – how players are going to be able to take part isn't set in stone yet. Presumably it will take place in a separate playlist like past events. But you'll need to show up in-game at a specific time to take part in it.

However, those of you who aren't around for the live event may be able to check it out afterwards. Following The Big Bang live event, Epic posted an official video version of it on the Fortnite YouTube channel, so there's a chance the same will happen for this event. However, if that's not the case, there's no doubt there will be countless YouTubers posting a recording of the Fortnite live event on their channels. Well embed the official Fortnite live event recap video here if it drops.

Fortnite live event: what to expect

By now it's been established by in-game teasers that Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 will be themed around Greek mythology, with skins based on the likes of Cerberus, Ares and Hermes set to arrive in-game according to Fortnite leaker @HYPEX, who art of posted the skins on Twitter. This leads us to the Fortnite live event, as Fortnite leaker ShiinaBR has posted animations found in the games files of a Titan hand emerging from the ground and holding a giant chest (possibly Pandora's Box). There's also an animation of the chest dropping to the ground and bursting open with a pillar of flame (once again posted by ShiinaBR ).

Meanwhile @HYPEX posted on Twitter letting us know a bit more about what the event actually entails, Players will have to team up to shoot the box down out of the Titan Hand, and once Pandora's Box bursts open chaos will ensue all over the map, with weather effects like thunder, earthquakes, and tornados set to take over the map – presumably to explain any changes that will come next season.

@HYPEX has also confirmed via a tweet that the earthquake that will cause the Titan Hand to emerge has a kill zone of 10 meters, so if you're skulking around the area around the arrival time, maybe just stay back a bit so you don't perish instantly.
