Thomas Tuchel told his players "we have to win" after his Bayern Munich departure was confirmed.

The German has not yet been in charge for a year but issues at the Allianz Arena has seen the club's hierarchy opt to cut ties come the end of the season. There has been rumours of internal rumblings between Tuchel and several of his senior players, Joshua Kimmich among them.

Bayern's results have also fallen off a cliff in recent weeks, which has left their Bundesliga dominance under threat with Bayer Leverkusen eight points clear at the top. Tuchel's side recently lost to their title rivals, Bochum and Lazio in the Champions League.

Following the announcement of his departure Tuchel has attempted to put any unrest to bed with BILD claiming he told the dressing room: "There are no longer discussions every week, everyone knows about it. We can still achieve something, we have to win."

Tuchel was joined by Bayern's chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen, who also called for more from the players, who could relinquish their Bundesliga crown for the first time since Borussia Dortmund were German champions back in 2012.

He said: "I told the players emphatically that their personal interests must come second to those of the club and the team. The most important thing is FC Bayern. The players must now bring the quality to the pitch that they undoubtedly have and they must feel grabbed by the honour."

Bayern are now relying on Leverkusen dropping points if they are to chase them down, although Xabi Alonso's outfit are yet to lose a game this season as they continue to break domestic records. Tuchel will also be looking to overcome a 1-0 Champions League deficit against Lazio.

The Bavarians were fancied to go deep in Europe, especially after they captured the signing of Harry Kane in the summer. The ex-Tottenham striker has scored goals at a rapid rate but faces another trophyless season with Bayern already out of the German Cup.

The Englishman scored an injury-time winner at the weekend as Bayern managed to see off RB Leipzig at the Allianz Arena to keep their slim title hopes alive.
