ITV has confirmed that Jeremy Clarkson won't be axed from the channel and will remain as host of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire despite reports Amazon has "cut ties" with the host.

An ITV rep confirmed to the Mirror that Clarkson, 62, will continue to host the ITV quiz show, which is due to resume filming later this year, as their stance from last year has not changed.

The channel first issued a statement in December over his controversial column – where he said he "hated" the former Suits actress "on a cellular level" and wanted to see her "paraded naked through the streets".

ITV boss Kevin Lygo said in December that the channel had "no control" over what the Millionaire host said in his newspaper column but called for him to apologise. He went on to add that they would keep him as host on the quiz show.

When asked whether he would be remaining on Millionaire, he said: "Yes, at the moment we are. What he says in the papers we have no control of."

It comes after Clarkson revealed that he had issued an apology to Harry and Meghan on his Instagram account and claimed that his ITV and Amazon bosses were "incandescent".

In the lengthy statement shared with his 5.2million Instagram followers on Monday, he said that he was "really sorry" and that he is "very angry" with himself.

Clarkson explained in his now-deleted newspaper column how he "dreams of people throwing lumps of excrement at her" in the insensitive spew of hatred towards Meghan – who he has never met.

In the wake of the column being published, many called for the TV presenter to be sacked from his ITV and Amazon gigs - something Clarkson addressed in his lengthy statement shared on social media today.

"The Sun quickly apologised, and I tried to explain myself. But still, there were calls for me to be sacked and charged with a hate crime. More than 60 MPs demanded action to be taken," Clarkson writes halfway through his statement.

" ITV, who make Who Wants to be a Millionaire, and Amazon, who make the Farm Show and Grand Tour, were incandescent."

"I therefore wrote to everyone who works with me saying how sorry I was and then on Christmas morning, I e-mailed Harry and Meghan in California to apologise to them too."

It has also been reported that Amazon has cut ties by cancelling The Grand Tour and Clarkson's Farm.

Variety claim TV sources tell them Clarkson won’t be appearing in any new shows on Prime Video beyond 2024.

They claim the streaming service won’t be working with the former Top Gear host beyond seasons of The Grand Tour and Clarkson’s Farm that have already been commissioned.
