Police are investigating whether a woman who died in a car crash was deliberately moved into the driver’s seat afterwards.

Sheila Dunne, from Cork, Ireland, died after the car she and another woman were travelling in was involved in a collision on the evening of February 11. Officers are now examining whether the 54-year-old, who was discovered in the driver’s seat, was moved there by someone who came upon the collision, sources have told the Irish Mirror.

There are marks on the seatbelt on Ms Dunne that may indicate she was a passenger in the car when the crash happened, it is understood. The Gardai are thought to be investigating whether a passerby moved the then seriously injured Ms Dunne into the driver’s seat before emergency services arrived. The other woman in the car, in her 40s, was not seriously injured in the incident and is not suspected of any criminality.

Last week, heartbroken family and friends gathered in the Sacred Heart Church in Glounthaune for Ms Dunne’s Funeral. Father Patrick Fogarty said: "I'm told Sheila met the love of her life 30 years ago on Valentine’s Day. Sadly, Ted was taken from us three short years ago. They had a wonderful loving relationship and today they are reunited." Ms Dunne worked as a Special Needs Assistant (SNA) at the Watergrasshill National School and was predeceased by her husband Ted and is survived by her children Lilley and T.J.

Paying tribute, one of her colleagues at Watergrasshill NS wrote: "She was the kindest, caring and most selfless person I have ever met. She would always light up any room. I was lucky enough to call her a friend and colleague. She will be dearly missed and will leave a void in all our hearts in Watergrasshill N.S. Thinking of you all at this very difficult time."
