A woman has told of her ‘heartbreak’ after a particularly bad schizophrenic ‘episode’ resulted in her losing her best friend. After admitting she suffered from the serious mental disorder – in which people interpret reality abnormally, resulting in hallucinations, delusions, and extremely disordered thinking and behaviour that impairs daily functioning – she told how, when her best friend was due to get married, she had been invited to be part of her bridal party.

She said: "I declined her invitation. My schizophrenia had reached a boiling point. I was convinced that I had written the latest Taylor Swift album and would accompany her on her Eras Tour, which would be in conflict with her wedding.”

She also told how at the time she was upset that her best friend had also planned her wedding on her birthday weekend. “Taylor Swift was the real reason I had to cancel though. My (non-existent) fiancé was supposed to pick me up and take me to the airport to board my private jet,” she said. “I was secretly preparing for the media frenzy surrounding my new fame.”

A week before the wedding she revealed she had called her best friend’s mum to see what the plans were before being told she had since been uninvited: “I haven’t really heard from her since, but I heard she is expecting her first child.”

“She felt betrayed because I didn’t attend her wedding. I also didn’t attend the Eras tour, and I’m still single. I quit my job and I’m on the brink of homelessness. I’m finally grasping reality." She also told Reddit readers that she was ending the story on a positive note: “I have an interview for a well-paying job next week, let’s just hope I don’t relapse again.”

After telling her tale, readers were quick to offer their support, with one saying: “Does she know you have schizophrenia? It sounds like you could probably let her mum know what happened and ask her to pass it along. If you don’t want to stress her out or anything with a new baby that’s understandable though.”

Another reader said if they were the friend they would be able to forgive: “I would definitely forgive a friend if they were going through this.” “This makes me wish your friend fully understood what you were dealing with,” said another. “it’s not your fault and you wouldn’t have been a bad friend if it wasn’t for the mental illness out of your control.”

Many others wished her well: “I hope you are getting treatment for your illness. You deserve happiness,” said one, while another said: “Mental health issues are not easy and people tend to be less understanding as it is an illness they can’t see!”
