Emmerdale favourite Dean Andrews, who fans know as Will Taylor in the show, revealed he recently underwent surgery.

The 60-year-old star took to Instagram on Thursday (February 2) to share an image of himself in a hospital bed, dressed in hospital clothes and with a tube going into his hand. But he put our minds at rest with a cheery thumbs up to the camera. He also shared his appreciation for the work of the staff at Sheffield's Thornbury Hospital.

He said: "Surgery went well. Very happy to have woken up. Many thanks to my surgeon Chris and all the staff." Lots of messages were sent wishing Dean a speedy recovery. One worried fan asked: "Oh no! What has happened? I hope you'll be feeling better super soon. Sending lots of love Dean."

Another person shared their good wishes: "Oh no hope all went well hope you feel better soon", while a third one wrote: "Wishing you a very speedy recovery. Take care and look after yourself."

Dean tied the knot with Helen last year. He tried to lighten the mood as his TV wife Claire King, known as Kim Tate on the show, was there. Joking about it he wrote: "I was hoping my two wives would be a little more upset when they found out about each other but it looks like they don't give two hoots @hbg_indiarose #claireking @ emmerdale ".

Before joining the cast of Emmerdale, Andrews was known for his role as Dean in EastEnders back in 2002. He also reprised this role in the TV film EastEnders: Ricky and Bianca that same year. Since then, he's appeared in a variety of shows including Clocking Off in 2003, Casualty, Shameless, The Street and Silent Witness.

However, Dean is most recognised for his role as the outspoken DS Ray Carling in the popular BBC series Life on Mars. He starred in this time-travelling crime show alongside actors John Simm and Philip Glennister from 2006 to 2007. He then reprised his role in the sequel Ashes to Ashes with Keeley Hawes from 2008 to 2010.
