Frankly, I couldn’t give a flying fudge about Sir Lindsay Hoyle’s regret. Nor could I care less about the chiselling chancers on all sides of the House fiddling while Gaza burns.

People are dead. Gaza is in ashes. China has joined the growing list of countries calling for an immediate ceasefire with 700,000 displaced Palestinians at the risk of starvation following Israel’s bombardment - on the back of 29,500 dead, nearly 12,000 of them children.

What is our so-called Mother of all Parliaments doing? Grandstanding, throwing metaphorical custard pies, ducking, diving and back-covering behind amendments.

And they wonder why young people think so little of our so-called elected representatives. Some kids watching - and even adults - would have wondered what all the chaos was all about, then given up trying to understand when the Speaker’s lack of authority became plainly apparent as he struggled to speak without being heckled.

Embarrassment doesn’t come close to summing it all up. At times it sounded like a chucking out time at a city pub on a Friday night. Or that point at a drinks do when everyone has put so much away they become vocally and emotionally incontinent.

Our MPs and their leaders will rock up on a TV or even a doorstep near you soon, bleating about their integrity and begging for your votes. Before then they’ll be stampeding to the moral high ground when someone else’s conduct falls below where it should be, to condemn them without an ounce of self-awareness.

Remember the shambles on the evening of Wednesday, February 21 when they do.
