The Royal Family is battling a spate of health woes, with two of the most senior royals - King Charles and the Princess of Wales - remaining off-duty as the monarch continues cancer treatment and Kate recovers from surgery.

The rest of the royals are stepping up to support Charles and Kate, with Queen Camilla and Prince William attending a string of royal engagements solo, but a royal expert has revealed that Kate's close friends are likely to be involved in helping keep the show on the road too.

The Princess of Wales underwent what Kensington Palace called a "planned abdominal surgery" in January after which she spent some days in hospital before being discharged to continue her recovery at home. Based on the advice of her doctors, Kate is unlikely to resume her royal duties until Eastertime, but a royal expert has revealed just how Kate is likely to be "keeping her spirits up" during her long recovery.

The expert claimed that her oldest friends are likely to be keenly involved in helping her with this process, and explained the ways in which they may be supporting her during her recent health struggles.

Jennie Bond - commentator and former royal correspondent for the BBC - told OK! Magazine that Kate's oldest friends will most likely be key in helping keep "her spirits up" at the moment.

These include Lady Laura Meade, who is Prince Louis' godmother, Emilia Jardine-Paterson, George's godmother and Kate's schoolfriend, Sophie Snuggs, who had Geroge and Charlotte in her wedding party as page boy and flower girl respectively, and Natasha Archer - Kate's stylist and reported confidant.

Bond said "I'm sure these old friends would know exactly how to keep Kate's spirits up after such major surgery. They have probably pampered her with fabulous gifts of luxurious spa products and hampers of delicious goodies to tempt her tastebuds. They know what she might like to watch on TV or to read, and may have been sending recommendations and encouraging her to rest and take the time out she needs."

Bond also noted that Kate's closest confidants also include her family, with whom she is known to be very close. Her brother James Middleton, 36, even revealed in an essay he wrote that during a period that he was struggling with mental health issues, the whole family attended therapy together, to ensure his speedy recovery.

Kate is also very close to her sister Pippa, 40, and both of her parents - Carole and Micheal, and her husband William is also widely reported to also get on very well with his in-laws.

The Princess' health issues come at a difficult time for the Royal Family, as King Charles has been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing regular treatment, and has also had to press pause on conducting public duties for the time being, which leaves the number of working royals currently undertaking official engagements seriously depleted.

Kensington Palace declined to comment.
