Morrisons has launched a new Aldi and Lidl price match promise across hundreds of products.

The new initiative means the supermarket will offer certain items at the same price or lower than its budget rivals. Morrisons says products that are included are corn flakes, canned tomatoes, baby wipes, rice and bread, as well as household cleaning products and toilet rolls.

Over 200 items feature in the Morrisons price match promise, and there will be new signage in stores from today to highlight which products are included. Morrisons says it will check prices twice a week, and will adjust them if necessary. But products won’t be price matched at its smaller Morrisons Daily convenience stores, or if you’re shopping via Amazon, Deliveroo or any other third party channels.

Similar schemes are already in place at other supermarkets. Asda already price matches against both Aldi and Lidl, while Tesco and Sainsbury's run their own Aldi price match initiatives.

It comes after Morrisons cut the price of over 200 products ranging from breakfast options to fresh produce at the beginning of this year. In addition, it offers a range of lower prices through its More Card loyalty programme.

But shoppers should never assume they're getting the cheapest price. You should always still compare prices online to check you are getting the best deals, using a shopping tool like Trolley.co.uk. Morrisons has just under 500 supermarkets and around 1,100 convenience stores.

Rachel Eyre, Morrisons Chief Customer and Marketing Officer, said: “We want to reassure our customers that we have hundreds of products that are the same price or cheaper - with the quality they’ve come to expect from us - than those available at Aldi and Lidl which is why we have launched our new Price Match. We hope this new campaign will bring our quality and value into even sharper focus for our customers.”
