Prince Harry 'cagey' on Good Morning America as he tries to 'avoid' one question

Prince Harry appeared "cagey" as he tried to "normalise" his broken relationship with the Royal Family following King Charles' cancer news, according to a body language expert.

The Duke of Sussex appeared on Good Morning America earlier today and spoke publicly for the first time about the monarch's diagnosis. Harry revealed he will be returning to the UK and said he hopes for a reunion with his family.

Harry confirmed he found out about Charles' cancer from the monarch himself, but refused to give any updates about the King's condition. He told host Will Reeve: "That stays between me and him." Body language expert Judi James has said Harry showed a "range of difficult emotions" during the interview.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, she said: "He does look cagey, trying to normalise it all as though they're just any other loving family." Judi added: "Harry's body language showed a range of difficult underlying emotions and a desire to avoid these more emotional topics like his father's illness topped off by some signals of a desire to un-dramatize his relationships and suggest his family are like any other family."

When asked how he found out about the King's condition, Harry explained: "I spoke to him." Will then asked: "And what did you do next?" Harry replied: "I jumped on a plane and went to go see him as soon as I could."

Judi said Harry's brief pause when asked about his trip suggested "a desire to create thinking time and to avoid eye contact." She added: "His signature gesture became a shrug to imply normality and he shook his head when he said 'I love my family'."

In the interview, Harry said he feels lucky to have been able to visit his father following the diagnosis, having made a brief trip to London last week. He said: "Look I love my family. The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him I'm grateful for that." When asked if the diagnosis could have a "reunifying effect" amid their feud, Harry said he is certain it will.

"Yeah, I'm sure. Throughout all these families I see it on a day-to-day basis the strength of the family unit coming together. I think any illness, any sickness brings families together," he told the host.

In response, Judi said: "The shrugging was repeated when he was asked about any unifying effect of the King's illness and his nod came without a pause, although he generalised by throwing one arm out towards the other families of Invictus. The idea of the 'Strength of the family unit' created a very strong unifying gesture from Harry, who cupped his hands and pushed them together as though showing a very strong desire to unify and contain."
