A walker has died after suffering a cardiac arrest in front of his family at a popular tourist spot.

The man was on a hike with relatives on Great Orme above Llandudno, north Wales, when he collapsed suddenly. A bystander performed CPR until emergency services arrived - but the man was declared dead at the scene on Sunday afternoon. Paramedics, coastguard officers and mountain rescue volunteers from Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team (OVMRT) dashed to the emergency, which happened on a footpath along the picturesque headland.

An OVMRT spokesperson shared: "A family group were walking on the foot path on the southern side of the Great Orme above Llandudno, when one of them suffered a cardiac arrest. Bystander CPR was conducted as the ambulance, mountain rescue and coastguard were called to assist at the scene. The initial call was from ambulance to mountain rescue but further assistance was requested from HM Coastguard to attend."

Wales Online reports the man died on the footpath despite the best efforts of all those involved. Further details, including the man's age and where he was from, are yet to be disclosed by authorities.

A HM Coastguard spokesperson added: "Llandudno Coastguard Rescue Team was sent to an incident near the Great Orme, Llandudno, on February 11. The alarm was raised at about 2.25pm. The Welsh Ambulance Service, Ogwen Mountain Rescue Team and North Wales Police also attended."

Attempts have been made to contact North Wales Police and the Welsh Ambulance Service for further information. Great Orme is a limestone headland on the north coast of Wales. Most of the Great Orme's rocks are between 339 and 326 million years old. On clear days Winter Hill in Lancashire, the Isle of Man and the Lake District can be seen from the summit of the Orme.
