Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen on the Bayern Munich job and has already started taking German lessons in case an opportunity to replace Thomas Tuchel arises.

The Portuguese coach, 61, is currently unattached after being sacked by AS Roma last month but has already been tentatively linked with a wide variety of roles, including clubs in the Saudi Pro League and across Europe.

Tuchel, another former Chelsea manager, guided Bayern to the German title last year after replacing Julian Nagelsmann midway through the season. He is under pressure, though, following Saturday night's crushing 3-0 defeat against title rivals Bayer Leverkusen.

And Mourinho is watching the situation with interest according to Bild, who claim that the two-time Champions League winner has even been learning German behind the scenes since departing Rome.

Fan unrest is growing in Munich with the German giants now five points behind Xabi Alonso's Leverkusen, who have now gone 21 matches without defeat in the Bundesliga this term.

Bayern are unlikely to be short on elite candidates if Tuchel, who was appointed as head coach last March, is dismissed in the coming weeks.

While Mourinho would seemingly be open to stepping in at Bayern, he was heavily touted to be on his way to the Middle East after leaving Roma with reports claiming he had a 'verbal agreement' with Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Shabab.

However, Mourinho recently confirmed to Spanish outlet Marca that there was no truth to such reports before ruling out the prospect of moving to the Gulf State anytime soon.

His comments come just months after he admitted it was likely he would end up in the Saudi Pro League in the future. He told MBC Egypt TV back in October: "I will go to Saudi Arabia in some free time, but I am convinced that I will work there. I don't know when, but I am pretty sure of it. No one knows the future, but I will definitely do this [working in Saudi Arabia]."

Mourinho spent two-and-a-half years at Roma after joining the club shortly after leaving Tottenham. He guided the Serie A outfit to Europa Conference League glory during his first season at the helm but came up short in the Europa League final against Sevilla 12 months later.
