Wrexham owner Rob McElhenney lauded fans despite the Red Dragons enduring a tough few weeks that involved three consecutive defeats.

The Ryan Reynolds and McElhenney-owned club were defeated 1-0 by Bradford City at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday, with Andy Cook scoring a 90th-minute winner.

The three points helped Bradford climb closer to mid-table, while a defeat knocked Wrexham out of the automatic promotion spots in League Two. Wrexham now sit fifth after 29 games and nine points off table-toppers Stockport following three-straight league defeats.

Phil Parkinson's men are also five points off second-place Mansfield Town, two points off third-place Crewe Alexandra, and one point below Barrow. Notts County, who gained promotion from the National League alongside Wrexham, have suffered a similar slide, now sitting tenth despite early promotion hopes.

Nonetheless, Wrexham co-owner McElhenney showed his class, thanking the 12,447 fans who showed up to the Racecourse Ground on Saturday, despite the Welsh club being in a rut. "Outstanding as always," the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-star said on X. Co-owner Reynolds also took to social media, adding: "We have all the tools. Just need to put it together. I love this squad."

Manager Parkinson was bitterly disappointed with the result, a game he says his team dominated. "We dominated the first half and should have been a couple of goals ahead," a disappointed Parkinson said.

"We still looked by far the better side in the second half but we couldn't find that moment of quality to unlock the door, which happens in times when things aren't going for you. We deserved the win but one moment at the end has proved decisive. We have to take this pain of losing and use it next time out."

However, despite Wrexham's fairytale time under the ownership of Reynolds and McElhenney, with Parkinson as manager, some fans want the boss dismissed following the club's slide down the table. "Another poor result, now we're even losing at home," one said on X. "Disgraceful given the talent in the squad, looks like we're heading out of the playoffs at this rate, 5th now !!”

A second added: "Parkinson must go. Simple. Haven't deserved the top 3 all season anyway based on the performances but real danger of missing out on promotion if he stays."

Up next for Wrexham is a mid-week trip to Sutton United. Notts County will then visit the Racecourse Ground next weekend, as they did last season in the close fight for automatic promotion.
