Love Islanders Joanna Chimonides and Chris Taylor hit the rocks earlier this week as the bombshell failed to form a connection with Chris, as she found him "too jokey."
And now, it looks as though their family and friends are at loggerheads in support of their loved ones after seemingly taking swipes at each other in comments posted online. After witnessing a row that erupted in the South African villa in last night's episode that also left Joanna in tears, her family felt forced to post a message in support of the radio host.
Joanna broke down following a game of Couples Goals where her fellow Islanders voted her and Chris to be the couple with the least sexual chemistry. After the row, it seems Chris was willing to put his hurt feelings to one side to comfort Joanna who was visibly upset. But Joanna's family appeared to make a dig at Chris after posting a picture of Joanna with Callum Jones- during Wednesday night's show Joanna confessed that she wanted to explore a connection with him instead of Chris.
They wrote on Instagram:"We can't begin to tell you how hard it was seeing Joanna upset. Going onto Love Island is about exploring connections and Joanna has remained true to herself. Those who know her, know how genuine, kind and full of life she is." A member of her family added: "So, in true Joanna fashion, we're going to look at the bright side of life with a picture of Callum stroking Joanna's hairy legs - seems like things have progressed quickly." They also liked a comment by a fan that read: "I predicted this couple was gonna happen! I think they are more suited to each other! I'm all for it."
Their post comes after Chris' family seemingly decided to hit out first after Thursday night's episode by posting a message that claimed Chris "deserved better." Both Chris and Joanna appeared to initially hit it off but it soon became clear to onlookers that Joanna had lost interest - but Chris remained unaware.
Love Island's Haris spills on unaired row between Zara and TanyelHowever, it didn't take long for his insecurities to surface over Joanna's true feelings when he attempted to kiss her but she recoiled, claiming to be too tired. They said it had been "tough" for them to watch him being criticised over his "jokey" persona. A message on his Instagram story read: "A tough one to watch for our Chris, especially as his family and friends know he has so much to give. His humour is just another wonderful part of him that we love."
They added: "Hopefully someone will realise that it's just him as a person and another reason to love him." Their post included screen shots from fans who had messaged Chris saying: "He deserves so much better." The pair are set to face elimination after Maya Jama announced a mass dumping on the back of the results of the game.
