Maya Jama and Stormzy have not attended this year's MOBO Awards, despite their nominations.

The presenter and rapper who rekindled their romance in October last year had previously dated for several years before calling it a day. Maya and Stormzy met in 2014 but only started dating a year later. However, they kept their romance under wraps until 2016. But three years later, they split up leaving fans heartbroken.

But now after reuniting, fans had hoped to see them walk the red carpet together at tonight's MOBO Awards at Sheffield's Utilita Arena – but previous work commitments meant this couldn't happen.

Maya, 29, is currently working in South Africa, hosting ITV's Love Island All Stars, meaning she would be unable to make the long-haul flight and return for filming in time. The Bristol-born presenter is nominated for Best Media Personality, supported by Bet UK. In the category, she's up against the likes of Alison Hammond, Amelia Dimoldenberg, Henrie Kwushue, Madame Joyce, Pressed Podcast, Remi Burgz, Shxtsngigs, Specs Gonzalez and Zeze Millz.

Meanwhile, Stormzy who is known for hits including Vossi Bop and Wiley Flow is up for Best Male Act, Album of the Year for This Is What I Mean, Song of the Year supported by BBC Radio 1Xtra for Hide & Seek and Video of the Year for Mel Made Me Do It. This year, the awards which are the UK's biggest celebration of Black music and culture celebrate its 26th year.

The awards will see a huge boost to the local economy of the South Yorkshire city, with some of the biggest names in music and television descending on the Steel City. Stars who have previously been celebrated include Rihanna, Cardi B, Amy Winehouse, Usher, Beyoncé, Diana Ross and Tina Turner.

Discussing this year's event, Kanya King CBE who founded the awards said: "MOBO are excited to be kicking off the 2024 Awards season and heading to the city of Sheffield for the very first time for the 26th MOBO Awards. For the past 14 years, the MOBO Awards have travelled to cities outside of London – including Glasgow, Liverpool, Leeds, Coventry, and now Sheffield. Our desire to bring MOBO to different cities across the UK has always been rooted in the desire to unite massive talent from a local and global level, as well as fans, to deliver an iconic music experience rooted in celebrating Black music’s present and future, as well as elevating the culture and being a driving force for social change."
