Arrowhead Game Studios’ long-awaited sequel arrives this week with bigger bugs and a new third-person perspective. But how easy is it to play with people on other platforms?
This week has turned out to be quite the jamboree for live service shooter fans on PlayStation, with Foamstars launching day one as part of the February PS Plus Essential 2024 lineup and the Helldivers 2 release time approaching ever closer. If you’re someone with a PS5 or PC who’s been looking forward to all the bug-blasting delights Helldivers 2 is set to bring, you’ll probably be curious about Helldivers 2 crossplay.
Helldivers 2 is a third-person live service shooter published by Sony that’s been close to a decade in the making. Players are tasked to defend Super Earth by laying waste to an endless number of bugs across the universe. Think of it as ‘Starship Troopers but with more satire’. It marks the first time that an otherwise PS5-exclusive game has received a simultaneous release on PC via Steam, in what could be the first of many titles do to so as the platform’s live service game push continues.
The simultaneous launch on PS5 and PC unsurprisingly sees the topic of Helldivers 2 crossplay enter everyone’s minds. Fortunately, developer Arrowhead Game Studios is on record as answering this question.
Is Helldivers 2 crossplay on PS5 and PC?
Simply put, yes. When Helldivers 2 launches on Thursday, February 8, players on both PC and PS5 will be able to find each other online and start bug-blasting together, as Helldivers 2 crossplay has been confirmed. Said support was confirmed in a PlayStation Blog post published in early January, where the game’s community manager Katherine Baskin wrote “We’re pleased to announce that Helldivers 2 supports crossplay”.

This was around the same time Arrowhead Games made known that future post-launch support for Helldivers 2 would be free, and will include the addition of new enemies, objectives, and story updates for no extra charge. This sets Helldivers 2 up nicely to make an impact amongst players across PlayStation and PC platforms, especially since they’ll be able to take the fight to the giant bug menace plaguing the galaxy together.
Much was the case with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League last week, Helldivers 2’s nature as an online game meant reviewers weren’t sent advance code. That means we’ll have to wait until launch day to see how well Helldivers 2 crossplay functions.
